a radio rip of the premiere of the new Manic Street Preachers single It's Not War It's Just The End Of Love. given it a few spins, rather good - more "poppy" than last year's Journal For Plague Lovers, but not as likely to offend die hard Manics fans as the uber-pop Send Away The Tigers did. promising for the forthcoming album.

Believe it or not...

The Carpenters Singles 1969 to 1973 on Quadraphonic vinyl.

I forgot just how briliant a group they were, and in SQ Quad the tracks sound stunning.

Oh and also in CD4 Quad, Tomita - Snowflakes are Dancing & Pictures at an Exhibition.  Stunning seperation.  Sounds bounce around the room like no one's business.  The latter is one hell of a mix.  Dolby 5.1 Surround?  Pah!

I know what you mean. In those years I didn't like The Carpenters at all. I had a party when they stopped/had to stop (...). Many years later I was on a audio exhibition where they used some tracks from The Carpenters in a demonstration. WOW, what a voice! So clear and pure, just amazing!  Shocked

There's a high cheese content in The Carpenters catalogue, but there's also a few crackers. Karen had a fantastic voice though.

High Cheese, particlularly that god awful 'Sing' with the la la choir.  I hated Perry Como's version more though; (Mum was a fan of his by the way).

As for the Carpenters: Ticket to ride, Goodbye to love, Superstar, We've only just begun, I won't last a day without you, Yesterday once more etc.  Classic stuff!

Well for this week, its been Pink Floyd. I came across some demos and working versions of Dark Side of the Moon. One thing i also noticed is the start of Nasher's song Say What I Mean sounds just like the start of Any Colour You Like. Played them side by side aswell. Both terrific songs Smiley

I'm assuming the equpment to play these is no longer in production?

I think there must be a website somewhere which has converted these kinds of recordings onto SACD or DD & DTS 5.1 formats.

Fish - Return To Childhood

Angry Angry Angry

considering the (in this day and age) exorbetent price for this set, i was disappointed to hear it has all the production values of something recorded to tape from an FM mono signal with the bass button avoided.

i am not sure if it is Fish missing cues or the band he has assembled misleading him but it gets distracting to hear him start signing then stop, someone called Deborah French provides ad hoc, random backing vocals which don't help either. and i am not at all sure what song the band thought they were supposed to be playing the finale of Misplace Childhood, White Feather, but i assure you, and i am not a musician, it was not White Feather.

i shall thus be giving the DVD of this a skip, instead spending the energy on a blog rant.

Welcome to the Pleasuredome at the moment, on repeat. Also dug out some Ryan Molloy / Frankie stuff on ewetube as I've not heard any before. Not often a replacement is a compliment to the band, but I rated him <drum roll>: Very good. HJ is better, but still, Very Good.

i was browsing a store on an afternoon off and discovered an absolutely mental sale - picked up T Rex's Electric Warrior, Highlights From Phantom Of The Opera and a not too bad 90s alternative comp (Manics, Suede, Depeche Mode amongst others) all on it - cost was roughly 85p each for most of you!

anyway, ta-ra for a bit - it's our anniversary on Monday, so we are off on our usual holiday for it! catch up with you all in a week or so.
