phenomenon of megabytes
Jul 19th, 2010 at 7:11pm

Today I bought Art of Noise 'Influence' and Propaganda 'A Secret Wish' reissue.  Each has a 'coming next' mention on the spine.  The Art of Noise (Element 10) states 'coming next: footsteps echo in the Outside World (again)...' which I guess refers to the Propaganda reissue (Element 11).

The Propaganda reissue states 'coming next: a phenomenon of megabytes.'  Given the Warriors reference, does this mean Element 12 will be a Frankie release?

Ooo, let's hope so.

As we've just had two releases and that we're already into the second half of the year, I wouldn't think it unreasonable for the next deluxe edition to be in 2011...which would make it 25 years since Liverpool.

Cool

I really hope there is a release of a Liverpool reissue soon. I'd love to hear it fully remastered with some never before released mixes and demos Cheesy

I read about the (Stay) cassette.  I think this was pushing it a bit, even by ZTT's aggressive marketing standards.  I certainly wouldn't have wanted to fork out pocket money for this!  If anybody's got a scan of the insert I'd be interested to see it as I'd like to see how the ZTT promo machine worked this one!

For those who haven't bought the Secret Wish reissue (and why not?!) it refers to Frankie's (Stay) CTIS release which just played a loop of birdsong and jungle noises from the opening stages of 'Welcome to the Pleasuredome'.  An attempt to make birdsong tapes cool perhaps?

I guess it explains where 'stay' originates from, or relates to, on the WTTPD track listing.

The vinyl slipcase lists...

Side A:
Well...
The World Is My Oyster
Snatch of Fury (stay)
Welcome To The Pleasure Dome

So I'm assuming...

Well = Operatic vocals over synth guitar thrashing and synth acoustic guitar
The World Is My Oyster = Holly's one line from tWiMO over Well
Snatch of Fury = Holly's one echoed line from Ferry/Fury
(stay) = the jungle background to SoF
Welcome To The Pleasure Dome = From the opening cymbal crash of the track

...?

Ahh.   Rather stupidly, I always assumed that "stay"  was as in "....and here I'll stay"  from Ferry Cross the Mersey.

I obviously didn't put much thought into it as the snatch bit is just Life goes on day after day after day after day.

Whereas it is the slightly longer version of Ferry on the Pleasuredome album that gets interrupted at the stay bit with the Sorry I left my card at 'ome...

I'm rambling on the general topic now, but why does "Ferry" become "Fury"?

I always assumed for legal reasons, by not mentioning it's real title (and spliting that from Pleasuredome title track) meant credit not needed for Mr.Marsden and his pacemakers, but that's my assumption of course.
My understanding is, if Holly singing those words was part of Pleasuredome (the track), Gerry Marsden would have to be credited as co-writer, so by calling it a "snatch of fury" removes that all from the title track.
Then again, knowing ZTT perhaps it wasn't planned that way at all. Wink

I would have guessed that the writers would have got paid for the inclusion of Ferry on Pleasuredome regardless of its title on the cover.

I know there was legal wranglings about it which stopped it being included on the first CD issue. Possibly royalty rates for the new CD format.

Perhaps there were issues between Relax and Pleasuredome which prompted an amusing title change for the album?
