Working for the Black Gas?
Jul 24th, 2010 at 10:47pm

Could anyone please help me understand what 'Working for the Black Gas' means. I've been trying to figure it out for ages and now suppose it's colloquialism that I am not aware of.

I think that it refers to the Nuclear Black Market where certain countries have built gas centrifuge plants to produce enough highly enriched uranium (HEU) to make nuclear weapons.

i've always taken it as a reference to oil, i have a hazy recollection of the phrase "black gas" being fairly common in the 80s.

The black gas is nicked from Mad Max 2. In the narrative at the start of the film an apocolyptic war is described where the combatants were fighting over the "black gas" or "black fuel". We were all obsessed by Mad Max and that is were the FGTH early look came from. It was more to do with Mad Max than S&M kinkiness

cheers for using the proper name, i get sick of people referring to it as The Road Warrior, a name conjured up by some American exec.

oddly, i made a video (with 2 VHS machines, a cassette deck and an awful lot of wires) for the 12 Wild Disciples mix of Warriors using bits of Commando but mostly Mad Max 2, with particular emphasis on the "final battle". my mates, when i showed it to them, were under the impression that it was the real video for the song!

I've always wondered where the lyrics "Sock it to me biscuits now" comes from in two tribes, it just doesn't seem to make sense?  does anyone know??

I always thought it was thrown together with Rowan and Martin's Laugh-in as the inspiration.
Did Ronald Raygun advertise Jaffa Cakes?!

off the top of my head, i am pretty sure Ronnie was quite enthusiastic about advertising Chesterfield cigarettes, socks and jaffa cakes could well have been the natural next step for him....

Apparently it's a bit of a nonsense song lyrically.
